A free story generator that tries to write like a person, run by two people who got tired of the alternative.
StoryGenerate has been online since 2023. It started as a small tool for getting past the blank page and it has stayed that: you give it an idea, it gives you a draft, and what you do next is your business.
Why it was rebuilt
The first version ran on WordPress with a generator bolted onto the side of it. It worked, then it half worked, then it stopped. Rather than patch it again the whole site was rewritten from scratch: a single modern application, deployed at the edge, with the generator as the product rather than an add-on.
The rewrite was also a chance to fix the thing that mattered most. The old version passed your choices to the model as bare labels and hoped for the best. This one tells the model what each choice should actually do to the prose, which is most of the difference between a story that reads and one that reads like a form filled in by a machine.
The house style
Machine-written fiction has an accent and readers hear it within a paragraph. The dashes, the borrowed vocabulary, the moral in the last line, the four paragraphs of identical length. The instructions behind this generator name those habits specifically and rule them out, one by one, because banning a named tell works and asking politely for natural writing does not.
It is not perfect and it never will be. What comes back is a draft. The fastest way to make it yours is to cut the first paragraph, change the names and rewrite the ending, and the whole page is editable so you can do exactly that.
What it costs
Nothing. There is no account, no card, no trial that quietly expires. There is a daily ceiling on generation, but it is set high enough that it exists only to stop an automated script running up a bill, and an ordinary visitor will never meet it.
