Terms of service

Plain terms for a free tool. The stories are yours; the service comes as it is.

Last updated 30 August 2026

1. Who these terms are with

StoryGenerate at https://storygenerate.io is operated by Poemly, International House, 12 Constance Street, London E16 2DQ, United Kingdom. Using the site means you accept these terms. If you do not, please do not use it.

2. The service

StoryGenerate generates fiction from the idea and options you supply. It is free, requires no account, and is provided without any commitment to remain available, unchanged, or free in future. We may change or withdraw features at any time.

A daily ceiling applies to how many stories can be generated from one connection. It exists to stop automated abuse rather than to limit ordinary use, and we may adjust it without notice.

3. You must be old enough

You must be at least 13 to use the site on your own. Under 18, use it with the permission of a parent, guardian or teacher.

4. The stories you generate

We claim no ownership of anything the generator writes for you. You may use it personally or commercially: publish it, adapt it, sell it, build on it. No credit is required, though it is always welcome.

Two things you should understand before relying on that. First, in many countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States, material generated by AI without meaningful human authorship may not attract copyright protection. If you intend to license or enforce rights in the work, edit it substantially and take advice about your own jurisdiction. Second, the same idea may produce similar text for someone else, so we cannot promise your story is unique.

You are responsible for what you do with the output, including checking it before you publish it.

5. What you must not use it for

You agree not to use StoryGenerate to produce or distribute:

  • anything unlawful, or anything intended to facilitate an unlawful act;
  • sexual content involving minors, or any content that sexualises a real child, in any form;
  • material that harasses, defames or impersonates a real, identifiable person;
  • content presented as fact when it is not, where doing so is likely to mislead or cause harm;
  • work submitted as your own for academic credit, a competition, or anywhere else that requires original authorship;
  • spam, bulk content farms, or automated scraping of the generator by script, bot or any means other than a browser.

We may block access to anyone doing any of the above, without notice and without explanation.

6. What the generator produces

Output is fiction produced by a language model. It can be wrong, implausible, repetitive, or unlike what you asked for. Nothing it writes is advice of any kind, and any resemblance to real people or events is unintended. Historical, medical, legal and technical details in a generated story should be treated as invented until you have checked them.

7. Availability and your saved stories

The service is provided on an as-is and as-available basis. It may be interrupted, slowed or withdrawn at any time. Stories are stored only in your browser, so clearing your browsing data, switching device or using private browsing will lose them. We hold no copy and cannot recover them. Download anything that matters to you.

8. Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Poemly is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of data, or loss of stories arising from your use of this site. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Nothing here affects the statutory rights of a consumer.

9. Intellectual property in the site itself

The name StoryGenerate, the site design, the copy on these pages and the software behind them belong to Poemly. The stories the generator writes for you do not, as set out in section 4.

10. Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated. The date at the top will change when they are, and continuing to use the site after that means you accept the revised version.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you keep the benefit of any mandatory protections of your own country's law.
