A bedtime story has one job that no other kind of story has: it has to wind a child down rather than wake them up. That changes almost every decision. The pace is slower, the sentences are shorter, nothing jumps out, and the ending is not a twist but a settling.

Put your child's name in the Character names field and it will be used exactly as you spell it. That one detail is the difference between a story and their story, and it costs you five seconds.

What this generator is aiming for

Nothing sudden

No jump, no chase, no cliffhanger. A small worry, gently settled, is all the plot a bedtime story needs.

Written to be said out loud

Short sentences and soft sounds, with a phrase that comes back so the listener can join in on the third time.

End with sleep

The last paragraph should slow down and stop somewhere safe and warm, with the character already drifting off.

Bedtime story questions

Can I use my child's name?

Yes, and you should. Put it in Character names and it appears throughout, spelled the way you wrote it. Add a sibling, a grandparent or the dog while you are there.

How long should a bedtime story be?

Short is about two minutes read aloud, which suits most nights and most toddlers. Medium is nearer five and works for older children who want a proper story.

Can I get a new one every night?

Yes. It is free and there is no daily cap you will meet in normal use. Each story is saved in your browser, so last week's favourite is still in the history panel.
