A straight face, an escalating problem, and no jokes announced in advance.
Your story appears here as it is written. Set the options on the left and press Generate.
Comedy is the hardest thing to generate and the easiest to get wrong, because the failure mode is so recognisable. A story that tells you it is being funny is not. So the prompt insists the characters take the absurd situation completely seriously, which is where almost all written comedy actually comes from.
The other half is escalation. One problem, made worse three times, each time by someone reasonably trying to fix it. Give it a situation with a small lie or an avoidable obligation in it and it has everything it needs.
What this generator is aiming for
Nobody is joking
The funniest character is the one who has not noticed. Sincerity is the delivery mechanism.
Escalate three times
The rule of three is a rule because it works. Small problem, worse problem, catastrophe, each caused by the attempt to fix the last.
Specific is funny
Not "a bird". A cockatiel called Duncan. Precision is most of the joke.
Comedy questions
Can it write satire?
Point it at a target in your idea and choose the Dry or Serious tone. Deadpan does more for satire than a humorous register does.
Is the comedy clean?
Yes by default. Set Written for if you want it firmly age appropriate, and it will stay there.
Which length is funniest?
Short usually. Comedy depends on timing and a long story has to keep re-earning it. Medium works when the escalation needs room.
