The rule that matters most in a children's story is who solves the problem. If an adult arrives and fixes it, the child reading has been told that their own ideas do not count. So the generator is instructed to let the child character work it out, with adults kept firmly to the side.

The second rule is not to end with the lesson. Children notice being taught at, and they mind. A story that stops on the last thing that happens leaves the point intact and the reader unpatronised.

What this generator is aiming for

The child solves it

The idea has to be theirs. That is the difference between a story a child enjoys and one they sit through.

Short sentences, real words

Simple does not mean babyish. Concrete nouns, active verbs, and no vocabulary chosen to impress a parent.

Warm, not sugary

A real problem, treated kindly. Stakes can be small and still matter enormously when you are seven.

Children's story questions

Can I set the age range?

Open More options and set Written for. Ages 5 to 8 keeps everything gentle and simple. Ages 9 to 12 allows real stakes and longer sentences.

Is it safe for young readers?

The prompt rules out frightening and adult content at those settings. It is still generated text, so read it before you read it aloud.

Can I use my child's name?

Put it in the Character names field and it will be used exactly as you spell it. It is one of the better uses of this tool.
