Ordinary people, an unresolved thing between them, and the day it surfaces.
Your story appears here as it is written. Set the options on the left and press Generate.
Drama is the genre with the least furniture, which makes it the one most dependent on craft. There is no monster and no deadline, only two people and something they have not said. The generator is told to ground the story in one relationship and one unresolved thing, and to let the surface of the scene be about something else entirely.
That last part is the whole technique. They argue about the parking, or the cost of the flowers, or who was supposed to call the hospital. The reader knows what it is really about because nobody says it.
What this generator is aiming for
One relationship
Two people, clearly drawn. A short story with a cast of six has room for none of them.
Subtext carries it
What the scene is about and what they are talking about should not be the same thing. The distance between them is where the feeling lives.
Resist the tidy end
Real things are rarely resolved in an afternoon. An ending that stops on a gesture is usually truer than one that settles the matter.
Drama questions
Is this literary fiction?
It is aimed that way: character first, plot second, no genre machinery. Choose the Reflective or Emotional tone for the closest fit.
Can I ask for a specific relationship?
Yes, and it helps. "Two sisters disagree about what the doctor actually said" gives it more to work with than "a family drama" does.
Can it write in first person?
Set Point of view under More options. First person suits drama particularly well, because it lets the narrator be wrong about themselves.

The old shape, told plainly: three tries, a bargain, and a cost.

Under 500 words, one moment, and a turn you feel a beat after reading it.
